06 February 2023 - Scan125
Today I released V3.5.0.0.
During the tedious chores of updating the website my attention was drawn
to the number of downloads V3.4.1.0 achieved. A staggering 10,663.
If I only charged £10 compared to my competitors I could have some nice
holidays :)
See: https://www.nick-bailey.co.uk/scan125/scan125_usage_profile.html
In January I had a feeble excuse for not having released updates to my
programs. Well Scan125 is done and Scan75 and DriveR8 have already
been coded and tested with the relevant updates from Scan125.
Speak Mode: If you read the Scan125 History File or the User
Manual you will find that Scan125 now has a Speak Mode. Now before
you all get too excited this speak mode is very limited and designed to
allow blind or visually impaired users hear what is displayed on the
scanner's screen without having to use their existing assist programs to
select / tab around. Once Scan125 is up and running then they can
learn to use the scanner's keyboard to control the scanner and familiarise
themselves with its operation etc.
Programming the Speak Mode was an interesting challenge that took quite a
lot of effort to get working and to be of use to the blind user I came to
help. It got him off the ground and I hope it might do the same for
others. It may also be of value to other users?
12 January 2023 - Long Overdue Update
I could, can and will apologise for a little absence. I did say
"Odd Blog" so you can't be disappointed?
2022 has seen me move home for the first time in over 34 years.
Needless to say this was a massive undertaking just to uproot and then
move some 250 miles away from England to Wales. But when you land
(wherever that may be) there is also a shed load of stuff to attend to
especially when the new home/property is also 34+ years old an not as well
looked after, maintained and understood as the one you left. Add in all
the critical address changes, new doctor registrations etc. and what seems
like a few days is actually a far longer period of lost time!
I guess you are all wondering where my software is at? Well it is
doing well. It took time to get my Internet and development system
up and running again (LAN Network wiring required). Add the house moving
challenges etc. but all is OK now (I hope). At one point I was with
no phone/internet for over a month because thieves uprooted and stole over
2km (1.6 miles) of trunk phone/internet cable.
New releases of Scan125, Scan75 and DriveR8 are in test at this moment in
time and will be released soon.
With that I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year and ESPECIALLY
thank all of you who have donated to the DEBRA Charity. May you
blessed!
02 July 2021 - New Releases and Trouble As Well!
Well June has seen new releases of Scan125 and DriveR8 with Scan75
waiting in the wings.
Unfortunately for me and Scan125 a Windows .NET / Quality Update
(KB5003537 - 21 June 2021) broke a piece of code that I wrote back in
V2.1.0.0 and May 2017! Yes four years later and just after I did my
V3.4.0.0 on 18 June release Scan125 went BANG! just 3 days later
by which time there had already been 351 downloads. I was not
amused!
Anyway V3.4.1.0 of Scan125 fixes this issue so if/when you get .NET
update applied to your system I'm afraid if you are already on V3.4.0.0
then you are going to have to update to V3.4.1.0.
Scan75 is waiting in the wings after major updates to bring it up to the
same/similar functionality as Scan125. The reason it is waiting is
because I've added Uniden SR30C scanner support which is currently kindly
being tested by person who has this SR30C scanner. When we are happy
that nothing major is broken then I'll be releasing Scan75.
Hopefully not long away now.
30 May 2021 - DONATIONS TO DEBRA
I've just received the latest figures for the kind donations my users
have made to the DEBRA charity. DEBRA and I thank you very much.
The breakdown/details are:
21/03/2017 - 24/05/2018 = £1000 (37 donations) (average of £27 each)
30/05/2018 - 01/05/2010 = £288 (22 donations) (average of £13
each)
10/05/2019 - 14/04/2020 = £340 (38 donations) (average of £09
each)
15/04/2020 - 30/05/2021 = £603 (43 donations) (average of £14
each)
Total To Date = £2291 (140 donations) = £16.36 average made by GREAT
PEOPLE
and I thank everyone of you.
PLEASE if you have not already donated to DEBRA then can I ask you to
please do so.
04 January 2021 - New Year Wishes To My Users
So 2021 is now with us so I'm kicking off the new year with a new release
of AutoFTP available now.
I plan on bringing updates to Sacn125, Scan75 and DriveR8 over the next
couple of months so keep an eye out for them.
It will soon be April and I will get the latest donation figures from
DEBRA. Let us all hope that my user's donations in 2020 keep up the
trend established in previous years.
08 July 2020 - Serial/USB Port Communication Reliabilty
I've been recently working with a new user of DriveR8 who uses an older
style Alinco ERW-4C interface and could not get DriveR8 to talk to his
Alinco. Together (thank you Harrie) we seem to have solved the
problem.
The solution I have implemented is in the next release of DriveR8 and
Scan125. Possibly also in Scan75 as well.
A summary of the problem/issue is that USB interface devices to traditional
serial protocol devices will buffer the response/data and then supply the
response as a consolidated data response.
When talking directly to old style non USB serial devices then the data
comes back in "chunks" as opposed to a consolidated/complete response.
To cater for the differences in behaviour I have changed serial port data
reception from synchronous with no buffering to asynchronous with buffering.
The big advantage of this change is that people running or trying to run
Scan125, DriveR8 ... on MACs and LINUX machines should hopefully find their
COM errors/issues will be resolved or at least improved.
22 June 2020 - Audio Recording - Input Selection
Well it is now done and dusted for Scan125 and DriveR8. Scan75 will
follow soon.
One hiccup I've discovered with the DriveR8 release is that for some strange
reason the User Manual Index links to their content for some reason were not
working. I've updated the WEB online version of the manual and will
update the download package ASAP.
20 June 2020 - Audio Recording - Input Selection
So I've been busy pulling my hair out on this and thanks to help from Ian
(BASS developer) and Scan125 user Jake I've finally managed to get recording
input selection working.
There was nothing wrong in my code but the problems I was having turned out
to be Windows OS issues with Windows returning generic non specific error
codes. With this now established, thanks to debug version off BASS
supplied by Ian, then I could work my way through loads of PC sound settings
to narrow down who/what was conflicting with who/what.
This is all now done and I've added more informational and messages to my
code so I'm now happy to shortly issue a new release.
To those who requested record input selection I'm sorry it has taken so long
to get to here but we have arrived and once I've done the documentation and
screen shots for the User Manuals then I'll be publishing the next releases
of Scan125, DriveR8. Scan75 may lag a little but wont be far behind.
05 June 2020 - Audio Recording In My Programs
I've had requests and comments come in asking if I can provide selective
audio input selection for recoding.
Now I do take all input/request/criticism etc. seriously and so for the past
month I have been working hard on trying to accommodate these request but
Windows 10 is proving to be a complete bag of worms in the audio
domain. Currently my programs use the Window's default input/recording
devices. This, when people get their privacy settings correct, seems
to work for most people.
People will already recall Windows 10 failed to work with the code I wrote
for Windows 7, this being due to Microsoft removing some of the Windows 7
audio code from Windows 10. This meant I had to move to using the BASS
external sound library code.
So here, I'm not a happy bunny and will be digging deeper. In this
"dig" I tried the well respected and used Audacity sound recording program
and even that failed under certain conditions!
17 April 2020 - DONATIONS TO DEBRA
I've just received the latest figures for the kind donations my users
have made to the DEBRA charity. DEBRA and I thank you very much.
The breakdown/details are:
21/03/2017 - 24/05/2018 = £1000 (37 donations) (average of £27 each)
30/05/2018 - 01/05/2010 = £288 (22 donations) (average of £13
each)
10/05/2019 - 14/04/2020 = £340 (38 donations) (average of £09
each)
Total To Date = £1628 (97 donations) = £16.78 average made by GREAT
PEOPLE
and I thank everyone of you.
I would personally like to thank those 97 people who have donated to
Debra. To those who have donated (you know who you are) and the
person who donated £500 of that total you have my unreserved thanks.
Downloads in that period were in the multiple thousands! Am I'm
asking too much? Surely Scan125/Scan75/DriveR8 are worth a couple of
pounds or more? This charity needs your modest donation.
So PLEASE if you have not already donated to DEBRA then can I ask you to
please do so.
16 April 2020 - DriveR8 - Release V2.5.0.0
Well I eventually got this release out and I:
- Apologise to DriveR8 users for the wait for the new release
- Hope the wait was worth while
Now over to you my DriveR8 users.
06 April 2020 - DriveR8 current work
Back on the the 17 May 2019 I wrote about new work on DriveR8 supporting
for the SR8 and SR9 Transceivers the additional functions of TX Power,
Tone/CTCSS and Split Frequency support.
This work stalled due to my beta tester having to attend to more
important other matters. Sadly this state continues but I'm fairly
confident that what testing we did get done was effective and there are no
major issues.
So I'm now working on finalising the next release of DriveR8 with new
function and some bug fixes.
As always my schedules (other than important bug fixes that break my
programs) are flexible and not guaranteed but I'm back on DriveR8 and hope
to get the new release out in the next few weeks.
26 March 2020 - Some Web Page Changes
I was recently advised that my rather old style web pages do not always
show nicely on small mobile devices. Now my software is clearly for
PCs, laptops and tablets running Windows but clearly the use of smaller
mobile devices is now common place so my pages should try to accommodate
these devices and users.
So I'm working my way through my pages (which will take time) to try are
improve them with regards to their Responsive, Viewport and Table
properties.
01 March 2020 - Scan75Convert and Scan125Convert
Scan75Convert is a new release to support the Scan75 Control
Program. Long overdue but it is here now.
Scan125Convert has been updated to remove a bug and now has a proper User
Manual.
As mentioned many times before my programs are there for you users and
any/all developments and bug fixes rely on user reporting and feedback.
29 January 2020 - Scan75 Control Program Released
Well a New Year to all and a new program as well. Scan75 is for the Uniden UBC75XLT and BC75XLT scanners
and the Albrecht AE75H scanner.
In my December 2019 entry below I gave some insight into how Scan75 came to
be started and of course my thanks to Chris Taylor of Moonraker.
Now that the first release of Scan75 is public I will be looking to new
releases of both Scan125 and DriveR8 Control Program. Much of the work
for these has already been done but there are a few items still to address.
No doubt there will be questions from Scan75 user's and hopefully not too
many bug reports. These will be addressed as priority work.
That is all for now. Enjoy Scan75 and above all enjoy 2020.
25 December 2019 - Year End Round-Up
This December, I give thanks to Chris Taylor of Moonraker, who kindly provided me with a UBC75XLT
earlier this year. With this I was able to create the first Beta version of
Scan75.
When I was developing and publishing Scan125 I had many requests for
Scan125 to support the supposedly similar UBC75XLT scanner. At first
this looked like an easy thing to do but on further research it became
evident that unless I had an actual UBC75XLT scanner to develop and test
against then the cards would be stacked against me in developing a quality
program.
Thankfully Chris Taylor/Moonraker came to my rescue in offering me a
UBC75XLT scanner, free of charge and no strings attached to develop
with. Even the postage was paid for.
So to Chris, Moonraker and all their employees I have to, must, wish you all
the seasons greetings and a Happy and Healthy New Year and also thank you on
behalf of DEBRA.
To the users of my software and especially those who have donated to the DEBRA charity this
year, and/or in past years, then I thank you all on behalf of myself and DEBRA.
I trust you have all found my software and support worthy of your time and
donations.
2020 will see the first formal release of Scan75. Also a release of
DriveR8 with additional transmitter support for the Alinco SR8 and SR9
transceivers.
Lastly to you, yours, family and friends I wish you a Merry Christmas,
Seasons Greeting and a Great New Year
29 June 2019 - Windows 32 Bit OS Recording Issues
Thanks to a user I have been made aware of an issue with the current
releases of Scan125 and DriveR8 when used on a Windows 32 bit OS
(Vista,XP,7,8,8.1,10).
An exception will be thrown (invalid file format) in the BASS.DLL/sound
library used to support audio recording. Form most/almost all users
this will not occur as the majority of Windows OS systems are 64 bit.
If you are a 32 bit OS user and have seen/experienced this problem then I
have an immediate fix that just requires the BASS.DLL file to be replaced
with a 32 bit version. Please contact me for the replacement
DLL.
The next releases of Scan125 and DriveR8 will resolve this issue. This
may have to be done by having two separate downloads, one for 64 bit Windows
OS and another for 32 bit Windows OS.
17 May 2019 - DriveR8 Additional Support for DX-SR8 and DX-SR9
Transceivers
Well apart from a beta tester I'm working with I've had no contact from
anyone else. This has slowed things down!
If finally testing goes well then the next version DriveR8 will support the
following:
- VFO A/B split frequency display/edit
- Memory Bank support for CTCSS Tone On/Off
- TX Power
I have to beg/stress to all my software users that:
- If something is broken/not working/confusing
- If you have ideas/suggestions
- Anything else
THEN PLEASE contact me. If I can fix or support them then I will try
to.
DriveR8, Scan125, and my other programs only get better with your feedback
and support.
01 May 2019 - DriveR8 Additional Support for DX-SR8 and DX-SR9
Transceivers
This work is ongoing but to speed matters up if there is anybody else out
there who can help/do some testing then please contact me (Email address for
DriveR8 above).
Information from Alinco is limited and any help will require you to set some
setting on your rig and then use the DriveR8 debug facility to read
specified memory locations. e.g. set Tone Off and read memory and then
set Tone On and read memory then we can see what has changed.
01 May 2019 - DEBRA Charity Donation Update
I would personally like to thank those 59 people who donated in the period
21 March 2017 to 01 May 2019 raising £1288 for Debra. To those who
have donated (you know who you are) and the person who donated £500 of that
total you have my unreserved thanks. Downloads in that period were in
the multiple thousands! Am I'm asking too much? Surely
Scan125/DriveR8 are worth a couple of pounds or more? This charity
needs your modest donation.
So PLEASE if you have not already donated to DEBRA then can I ask you to
please do so.
28 April 2019 - DriveR8 Additional Support for DX-SR8 and DX-SR9
Transceivers
I'm pleased to say that I'm working with a great guy called Gerald to extend
DriveR8's support for the SR8 and SR9 transceivers.
Currently DriveR8 supports some TX functions/settings but these are not
currently mapped/stored/reloaded or editable by memory bank location.
An example of this is TX Power.
Thanks to some testing by Gerald I now know where this data is stored and
will be able to update DriveR8 to fully support TX Power.
There are of course other items that we need to work through and this will
take time. To this end there is no delivery schedule planned HOWEVER
DriveR8 will be updated.
I could update DriveR8 almost immediately to support TX Power in memory
locations but with all the other TX settings that may or may not be stored
in a memory location I need to understand how best to redesign the DriveR8's
memory display and edit form.
The good news is that progress is being made for near or almost full PC
program support of the SR8/SR9 transceivers. To my knowledge nobody
has this current level of support let alone what I'm working on.
Stay tuned :)
20 April 2019 - Scan125 & DriveR8 Windows 10 Recording Functions
Today I've release new versions of Scan125 and DriveR8 that resolve the
audio recording functions on Windows 10.
To do this I've had to:
- move the base .NET version requirement from Version 3.5 to Version
4.5. This should not be any issue on Windows 7 and Windows 10
systems. If it is for you then just download the .NET 4.5
framework/run time from Microsoft.
- use external audio library functions, BASS (bas.dell) and
BASS.NET (Bass.Net.dll).
Ideally I would have preferred to not have used external audio library
functions but this proved to be the most sensible solution for Windows 10
systems. And as Windows 7 is going out of support come January 2020
then this is probably the best time to change my code base (.NET and BASS)
and hopefully flush out any issues prior to Windows 7 going out of support.
I rely on my users to tell/inform me of issues etc. so if you have any
issues then TELL ME. Do not rely on some other person doing it for
you.
11 April 2019 - Scan125 & DriveR8 Windows 10 Recording Functions
I'm rather staggered that since I upgraded to Windows 10 the recording
functions of Scan125 and DriveR8 just record noise!
None of my users have raised this issue with me so possibly for a long time
(one or two years) both programs have been broken with respect to audio
recording on Windows 10 systems.
I've been looking to resolve this issue but it is looking like that I will
have to withdraw both program's audio recording abilities on Windows 10 and
direct users to use alternative recording applications.
If this is going to be a problem for you then please let me know.
As Win 7 goes out of service/support then for W10 I plan to withdraw the
broken audio recording functions.
If you have objection / issue then please let me know.
04 February 2019 - Scan125Convert & DriveR8Convert New Releases
I've updated the above utilities to cater for input CSV files that may lack
tag name, frequency or modulation information. After a user query it
became apparent that his input CSV file lacked a modulation data
field. Design omission by me.
Now these programs will substitute missing data a follows:
Scan125Convert : 25MHz for
frequency, AUTO for modulation and "" for channel tag name
DriveR8Convert : 1MHz for frequency,
USB for modulation and "" for memory tag name
20 January 2019 - Scan125 New Release
As mentioned on my 20 January 2019 entry this new release of Scan125 now
supports a direct frequency input tuning control.
20 January 2019 - New Year Software Comings
I've just started work on (and almost finished) a new release of
Scan125. Something that has been missing from Scan125 (and competitor
products) is a direct frequency input control so you can use the scanner
just like a more traditional receiver. Want to directly tune to 195.33 MHz
then you just mouse click the virtual display and enter the frequency.
For Airband followers then Scan125 will also (if enabled) apply the *real*
frequency conversion from Air Traffic Control (ATC) called values (and
airfield published values) to the actual frequency the scanner has to be
tuned to.
I've been playing and testing and it is actually all working very
well. Just wish I had done this earlier as I'm an avid airband
enthusiast and this function is great for following frequency
transitions. As always documentation, screen shots, etc. is the
release pain that delays my software releases but is an import part of
*quality* software.
Rest assured none of my software is not open / up for update in 2019.
So if you are a user of my software and/or have new ideas etc. then please
shout and contact me via the relevant Email address at the head of this
blog.
If I can do it I will try to (legal restrictions applying).
26 December 2018 - Timely Reminder
Hope you all had a good Christmas Day and continue into the new year.
Santa is bringing some people UBC125XLT/series scanners and inevitably some
people are asking questions or setup queries regarding Scan125. PLEASE Use Email and not the Comments facility.
The comments facility is totally anonymous
to comply with GDPR so I am unable to respond to any questions or issues
raised via the Comments form.
14 December 2018 - Yaesu FTA-250L
Well Santa is bringing me a Yaesu FTA-250L Airband Transceiver for
Christmas.
Yaesu have their own software for programming this device but the software
does not provide virtual control and display functions like my Scan125 and
DriveR8 software.
So in 2019 I'll be looking to keep my brain cells alive (in older
age/retirement) to see if there are any possibilities of virtually
controlling the FTA-250L. If not then I guess I'll just enjoy
following my pleasure if following aircraft and their flight
paths.
Lastly.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all my users. I thank all of you
who have donated to the DEBRA charity and hope that those who have not yet
done so will give DEBRA a little Christmas present that they can put to good
use in 2019. Please remember, at this time of year, my software
is free, function unrestricted with the hope that users will make even a £1,
1$, 1 Euro to DEBRA.
10 November 2018 - The Fallen Radio Operatives
This weekend is a very good time to appreciate the role of radio
communications, especially HF, in WWII and absolutely to those brave
resistance fighters, agents and spies who kept information flowing and often
gave their lives in the process.
I raise my aerial to them, take my hat off and honour them.
14 October 2018 - The Leaves Are Falling
So winter is approaching which may lead to more development activity.
For Scan125 everything is quiet with no reported issues or function
requests.
For DriveR8 a user with an Alinco DX-SR9 has reported some issues due to the
SR9 not responding to some commands DriveR8 sends. We are working on
this and are making good progress. As no other user has reported
the same issues then I'm assuming there is currently only one SR9 user out
there so am taking the time to get test versions tested instead of rushing
out a patch/fix. The way the SR9 is handling and responding to some
commands is proving to be interesting to say the least so getting it right
is my priority.
If you have tried DriveR8 on a DX-SR9 and hit problems and not bothered to
contact me then I have a test release available that will get you up and
running so all you have to do is "ask and you shall receive".
As always any issues, questions etc. then please do not hesitate to contact
me.
08 September 2018 - DriveR8 New Release
Today I released DriveR8 V2.2.0.0. This release adds some new function
and also removes the requirement to register (for free) to remove the
previously time limited virtual display function. See my 25 August
2018 post below for more details about this.
25 August 2018 - Scan125 New Release
Well I've gone a done it and removed the requirement to register (for free)
to remove the previously time limited virtual display function.
Apologies to the users who only just registered today.
As for a periodic nag "pop-up" then I've not done this. Instead the
Menu DONATE (DEBRA Charity) button will "blink" just 10 times every 100
program executions, or on a new installation and every 100 invocations
thereafter.
If this annoys users then so be it but imagine having to painfully prick 10
or more blisters EVERY day. Scan125 will just blink the donate button
10 times every 100 program invocations.
And for those who have donated (or bought me a coffee in the past) then it
will be a pleasant reminder of how Scan125 got to the stage of raising money
for charity. To them I say THANK
YOU!
22 August 2018 - Scan125 Next Release
The next release of Scan125 may see some changes that I've *not yet* finally
decided to do.
Scan125 now has over 3500 registered users from 56 or more countries.
I collate and publish these stats along with User Comments (all anonymous)
so both me and the users get a good idea of what others are saying.
This also lets users see how many others in their country are using
Scan125. Additionally it helps me identify any possible country
specific issues.
I think we can safely assume (unless I do something stupid) that Scan125
usage will increase and the current stats data speaks for itself in terms of
a steady growth of World Wide users. To this end I think Scan125's
popularity and usage has been proven and the current registration process
has served its purpose?
So with the next release I thinking/proposing:
- Remove the free registration and virtual display timeout (yippee I
hear some shout)
- Provide a program link to post comments and suggestions (anonymously)
for me to see - comments will be used on the existing "User Comments"
web page
- Possibly add some periodic reminder (eg. 3 times a year or every 100+
program invocations) for people to consider donating to the DEBRA
charity (or other charity)
Now 3) above will possibly be very contentious as for many it may/will be
considered to be "nag ware". I do understand this which is why I'm
very cautious about going down this route. However Scan125 is *FREE*
and with a Careware/Charity status
and objective. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Careware).
Scan125's
and my objectives and time (many many many hours) is to raise funds for
DEBRA/charity and also provide a free alternative program for scanner
users. To this end I need to do something to try and ensure that the
objectives are fulfilled as best as possible. The problem I have is
that users are anonymous, donations are anonymous (unless you have Emailed
me to say you have or will be donating) so the "nag" will be occasionally
present to all users (including me).
I would like your thoughts on this if you would be courteous enough to Email
my Scan125 contact Email address above.
28 July 2018 - Time Flies By As Do Registrations
Hope you are still enjoying Scan125 and DriveR8 programs. Scan125
registrations come through almost daily and are approaching 3450! By
year end at this rate there will be over 3500 happy? users out there :)
On the subject of Registration Comments I sometimes see them stating a
problem or issue. This can be a little frustrating for both of us
because with my "no personal details" registration process I'm powerless to
help. All problems, issues, questions, etc. should be sent to my
program's contact Email address. Those who have done so will vouch for
my rapid response and support. I have thought about putting Feature
Request and Bug Report forms on my website but for these to be effective I
would need people to enter personal details and I'm not happy about going
down that route despite my site being HTTPS and SSL enabled. So,
please Email me directly even if you only have a question.
02 June 2018 - Scan125 New Release and Debra Charity Donations
I've just released Scan125 V2.4.0.0 today. Enjoy.
I would personally like to thank those 37 people who donated in the period
March 2017 to May 2018 raising £1000 for Debra. To the person who
donated £500 of that total you have my unreserved thanks.
Registrations in that period were 1990! Am I'm asking too much?
Surely Scan125/DriveR8 are worth a couple of pounds or more? This
charity needs your modest donations.
Please guys and gals if you have not donated then please do so. If you
can find better quality, better supported (even at weekends) software for
less than a minimal/modest donation then please let me know.
13 May 2018 - Four Years Since Scan125 Went Public
For those of you that read the Scan125-History file you will have noticed
that Scan125 was first released publically on 30 April 2018 with development
and private beta releases dating back to before then.
In these past four years we now have in excess of 3150 registered users so
if you use Scan125 then you are not alone and I hope are enjoying the
program and, what I'm repeatedly told is, excellent support (even during
weekends and evenings).
I'm not looking for extra work as I have an alternative life to live (and of
course my DriveR8 and other projects to support) but it is probably a good
time to think about Scan125's future. Whilst the Uniden 125 series of
analogue scanners appear to be still selling well I doubt this is going to
last well into the future. So this coming year is probably our last
real opportunity to add sensible functions/features to Scan125.
Over to you Scan125 users to Email me with ideas and suggestions. As
always I make no promises to implement any particular request but just
remember that Scan125 is what it is by virtue of user feedback and requests.
28 Apr 2018 - General - Questions / Requests when Registering
I'm seeing a few people who when registering (Scan125 & DriveR8) are
putting questions and/or requests in the registration comments field.
Please do not do this but instead
use one of the official Email contact addresses as published.
My program registration process is totally anonymous and I have no knowledge
of who you are or your Email address (unless you give that information when
registering). This means that I can not reply/answer your writings.
03 Apr 2018 - General - Scan125 Registered Users
Just the other day Scan125 topped 3000 registered users in 55 countries
around the world.
This success is a credit to my registered users many of who send me ideas,
requests and bug reports. More importantly, whilst not as good as I
would have hoped for the DEBRA/other charity donations trickle in and this
is massively good news and support for those in need. PLEASE
everyone keep those charitable donations coming in. Just a UK pound,
US dollar, or any other unit from every user would be great.
07 Mar 2018 - General - DriveR8
DriveR8 V2.1.0.0 is released today. I hope that the new functions will
be welcomed by users. I'm already enjoying the possibly most welcome
new function of Scheduled Tuning. This allows one to set a date, time,
duration and Memory Bank and Memory Number for DriveR8 to automatically tune
to. In addition one can enable automatic recording. So there is
no excuse to missing your favorite commercial broadcast program, your
normal HF net meet or that NAVTEX or any other reception requirement.
27 Feb 2018 - General - Scan125
As February 2018 draws to a close then I note that there have been 160 new
Scan125 registration since 1st January 2018. So give or take a few
that is a registration rate of 80 per month this year thus far.
NOT WANTING COMPLAIN but ONLY 3 users
have told me that they have made a donation to charity. I hope to get
more accurate figures from DEBRA come financial year end but at the moment
I'm not that pleased.
Please tell me where you can get better software for your
BC125AT/UBC125XLT/UBC125AT/AE125H scanner for the same price as a small
donation to an International Charity such as DEBRA or a charity of
your choice. Every donation no mater how
small is a life saving, life enhancing gift.
Please help me to help them and
encourage me to continue supporting Scan125. Not much to ask for!
14 Feb 2018 - We now use HTTPS / SSL
It has been a long time coming but I'm pleased to let you know that this
site is now HTTPS / SSL enabled. It is good for both you and me so we
can all feel more secure and comfortable.
30 Jan 2018 - DriveR8 Control Program - V2.0.0.0
Thanks to user Gerald in Germany I've been busy supporting the
TRANSMITTER/TRANSCEIVER functions of the Alinco
DR-SR8 and Alinco DR-SR9
Transceivers.
As I do not have either of these rigs it has been an interesting journey for
both of us. A game of "Ping-Pong" in me supplying code and Gerald
having to validate against his DX-SR8 rig.
With V2.0.0.0 of DriveR8 most, but not all, of the SR8/SR9 transceiver
transmitter controls are supported with the basic omission being that
of CW and Key/Paddle settings. If you are a CW user and
would like the additional CW function support then please Email me.
Needless to say you will end up having to test and report back etc. which
could take time and several cycles to complete so unless you are
able/willing to undertake these responsibilities then please do not contact
me.
As always please Email me bug reports, suggestions.
04 Nov 2017 - Blog Publish
The background/reason for this blog, which I may cease at any time, is that
with recent forthcoming UK/EU regulation changes I can no longer "acquire"
personally identifiable information via my website without your
prior consent and then I would have to secure that data from theft from my
website/server. To comply with these new regulations would require me
to have htpps: and associated
expensive security certificates etc..
How does this affect you/me:
- You can register my software online with any crap information you
like. I'm waiting for a "Donald Trump" to appear (big smile).
- I can not contact you, even if you are having problems with my
software. YOU HAVE TO CONTACT me (see contact Email addresses
above)
- A general loss of ready communication/feedback/issues etc. for BOTH of
us
